First Editions: Royal Sorrow...And Possible Joy?

While many of the papers continue to give prominent focus to the passing of the King of Pop (Michael Jackson) it’s the sadness of the future king which dominates much of the news tonight.

Clarence House has announced that Prince Charles is "deeply saddened" after hearing that a close friend, Lieutenant Colonel Rupert Thorneloe, commanding officer of the 1st Battalion Welsh Guards, was one of two soldiers killed on active duty in Afghanistan on Thursday.

Elsewhere it’s vastly different royal emotions which feature on another front page, with a story which was always destined to appear following Andy Murray’s heroics at Wimbledon.....

Palace Defends The Indefensible?

As Britons bask (or suffer!) in the heatwave, a number of people are getting understandably hot under the collar over the staggering amount of taxpayer money used to fund Princess Beatrice’s student digs.

Palace aides have been forced to defend the decision to spend £250,000 of taxpayer’s money on redecorating a four-bedroom apartment in St. James’s Palace for use by the non-working royal.

Blair Confirms: 'I Did Make A Pact With The Queen'

Former Prime Minister Tony Blair has confirmed that he and the Queen made a pact not to watch the Helen Mirren movie which documents their working relationship following the death of Diana, Princess of Wales.

Speaking at a Vanity Fair sponsored talk in New York, Mr Blair broke all rules of protocol by revealing details of an audience he had with Her Majesty.

Media Barred From Reporting Spencer Divorce

Earl Spencer and his former wife have successfully fought to ban the media from covering their high court divorce settlement.

The news comes just a day after family division judge Mr Justice Munby rejected an application for a blanket ban on reporting of the case involving Diana, Princess of Wales' brother and his ex-wife, Caroline.

Choose A Colour....

With sun rather than rain the main element at Wimbledon, officials have found a new use for the multi-million pound roof on Centre Court: to shield the eyes of royal guests such as Prince Michael of Kent.

Across London the photographer seconded to cover the latest round of audiences with the Queen at Buckingham Palace may have wished he too could have shielded his eyes, such was the vast range of colours on display.....not least from Her Majesty’s dress!
